Happy Thanksgiving – A surprise delivery!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

What a wonderful way to start the holiday – a VERY LARGE box was delivered today with my name on it – it was 30 pounds of Poly-fil product grant. This will help me to continue to make pillows and other items for those in need 🙂

I am still looking for help with pillowcases, burp cloths, drawstring bags and more for Doylestown Hospital – thanks to everyone who has offered to help so far! Look for an update in the next few weeks!

Fall project is complete – and some new help needed!

Happy November!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of so many of you, I got enough material, stuffing, and seeing help to make 100 heart pillows! Additionally, I was able to donate over 50 tissue holders and two dozen chemo headscarves. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped in any way!

Yesterday, I delivered all of these items to Doylestown Hospital to be given out to patients. They were so thrilled with the donation! A big thanks to Marguerite at the hospital for always supporting my projects and finding ways to match these items with those who need them most.

While I was there, I heard from Marguerite that the hospital is need of colorful pillowcases for children, burp cloths for newborns, and drawstring bags for the homeless. So- I’m gearing up for the next project to support them with those items! As always, your support is appreciated in helping me to help others in our community!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Announcing a new project for October!

Happy Fall everyone! Yesterday, I had an opportunity to participate in a fundraiser for Unite for HER. This incredible organization supports women as they fight breast cancer by providing healing therapies such as nutrition, massage, and acupuncture.

I really love the mission of this organization, and I wanted to do something to help. So, during the month of October I will be sewing comfort pillows for mastectomy patients. These heart shaped pillows can be used under the arm while sleeping, sitting in the car, and more. I will also be making chemo head scarfs, which are made of comfortable, beautiful fabrics that will be donated to women in need of them.

So how can you help? Sewing help is always welcome! As with all my projects, my awesome Grandmom, Alice, will be willing to make up kits for you so that you can sew items – just let us know if you need one (or a few!).

Not a sewer? You can still help. The biggest need for this project will be pillow stuffing. Donations of stuffing or gift cards/money to buy stuffing are greatly appreciated. Fabric donations are always welcome too.

Thanks everyone! Let’s see how many items we can make to support these amazing women!

Love,

Maddie

Pillowcase project complete!

Thanks to the very generous donations and sewing help I received over the last few weeks, today I was able to deliver 220 hand sewn pillowcases to St. Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia. These pillow cases, along with 220 tissue holders made by my Grandma, will be given to the children attending Camp Can Do – a summer camp experience for children with cancer and their siblings. Every camper will get one of these pillowcases and tissue holders!

While I was dropping off the items, I had the opportunity to tour the children’s oncology unit and meet many members of the staff. It was a wonderful visit and I am glad to be able to be a very small part of helping others feel more comfortable and have something special they can call their own!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped me make this project a success – especially my Grandma, my friends from Granny Dots and from the American Sewing Guild!

New Project- Global Youth Service Day

We are just about two weeks away from Global Youth Service Day – April 12-14, 2019. I am so excited to announce that I will be working with an awesome organization – Camp Can Do!

Camp Can Do is an amazing camp experience for 8-17 year old children who have been diagnosed with cancer.  St. Christopher’s Cancer Unit has requested 120 pillowcases for the campers.  If possible (and I think we can do it!) they would also like an additional 85 pillow cases for the siblings of these campers who also get to participate.

I need your help to meet this goal!

To my sewing friends, please let me know if you are able to make some pillowcases! If you need fabric, I can get it to you!

Don’t sew but want to help? I will gladly accept colorful, cheerful prints of cotton fabric or donations so that I can purchase fabric on your behalf!

Thanks for your help – I know that these children will really enjoy receiving these pillowcases this summer! Thanks also to my friend Carol Fenton and Granny Dots for bringing this project to my attention!

New Project!

I hope everyone is enjoying this winter weather, or at least a day off of school! Today I took some time to organize and finish up pillow cases which will be donated to Ryan’s Cases for Smiles. This incredible organization has already donated over 1,700,000 pillow cases to children who are in extended hospital stays battling childhood cancer. I will be dropping off 50 pillow cases on Friday!

This is my first time donating my pillow cases to this organization, but when I read about their mission I just knew I wanted to help. I have seen how excited children get when they have a bright, cheery pillowcase to call their own and I am excited to know that these pillow cases will be going to some of the same hospitals I have donated to before including CHOP, St. Christopher’s, and Ronald McDonald House.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support me with my projects – I could not do it without your donations of fabric, supplies, and of course, the help of my American Sewing Guild friends who never let me down when I announce a new project! I’m still finishing up some wheelchair bags to take to the nursing home – I’ll be sure to post as soon as they are done and ready to be delivered!

Happy Holidays! Winter delivery update

First of all, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and a wonderful New Year!

The last couple of months have been very busy. My brother and I completed our Fall Shoe Project, and with your help, we donated over 100 pairs of shoes to those in need in rural areas of Guatemala.

Recently, I learned about a great organization called The Baby Bureau. They provide baby items to those in need in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. I am proud to be donating over 2 dozen handmade burp cloths to this organization. I’ll also be looking for more ways to help in the future!

Thanks to the help of my ASG friends and my Grandma, I am also happy to be able to donate 50 beautiful handmade pillowcases to the children staying at Shriner’s Hospital in Philadelphia. I hope that getting a colorful pillowcase they can call their own will bring just a little bit of cheer to them during their stay.

Thanks as always for your support of Buddee Bags. Be on the lookout for my next project – I will be making more wheelchair, walker and hospital bags for the residents of Grundy Hall in Doylestown with a delivery date of late Winter.

2018 SUMMER OF SERVICE

I hope everyone is finding some time to relax this summer! I am happy to announce that for my Summer of Service project this year, I will be helping my brother with his project – collecting shoes for the people of Guatemala.

This is a highly requested item for children and adults.  Many people do not have shoes and have to walk many miles a day in bare feet.  We are working to change that!

From July 15 through August 15, we will be collecting new shoes that will be delivered to Mayan Families in September.

Please consider donating shoes, or if you prefer, you can send money and we will purchase shoes for you.  Shoes should be new (or really like new!) and can be for children or adults (up to size 10 please).  Please don’t send high heels or flip-flops.

Food collection totals and MINI-THON!

This morning I was able to deliver the food collected from Global Youth Service Day to the Pennridge Fish Food Pantry! In all,  I was able to donate 183 pounds of food to those in need right in my community! Thank you all for your continued support.

Shortly, I will be headed to my High School to spend 10 hours supporting Four Diamonds through Mini-thon! This is an incredible opportunity to support childhood cancer research.  Thank you to those who donated – I am the number two fundraiser in my entire High School! There is still time to help with a tax-deductible donation.  Can you help me be number 1?  FOR THE KIDS!

2018 Global Youth Service Day

We are just about a week away from Global Youth Service Day 2018! This year, I will be collecting items from the Pennridge Fish Food Bank wishlist.  This is a great organization that provides much-needed help to families in the area.  Please consider helping by donating items to support the cause! I will be collecting items through April 22nd, delivering them to Pennridge Fish on April 23rd.  I am including a list of the items currently requested.

Thanks as always for your continued support of my projects!

Love, Maddie
